Effective Management

The course work encompasses leadership, decision making, and technical areas such as systems and controls in the factory environment. Participants will learn to integrate production needs, personnel management, and working conditions for an efficient and productive garment factory.



Duration

20 hours at classroom and 20 hours in-factory (Note: The course can be attended by individual managers in their factories, or in small groups; on-the-job exercises will take place in the participants’ places of work.)

Requirements

University education or equivalent
(e.g., factory manager or assistant, line leader, or high level factory supervisor) English fluency helpful; Khmer and / or Chinese translation may be provided if necessary

Who should take this course?


sewing factory managers interested in improving and updating their management knowledge and skills; experienced supervisors hoping to qualify as factory manager or assistant manager

Price varies depending on class composition (factory group and/or individuals)

Course Content


Technical review: review of time measurement, work study and industrial engineering principles; product specifications and technical specification sheets; time study and its applications; balance calculation for line, operator and client order



Production management: target setting for operators, lines, dates; performance and efficiency forms and controls; individual hourly operator-production-control (is this a performance/efficiency control?); Operation Cycle Control (is this a performance/efficiency control?); layouts; saving material, time and energy (lean manufacturing)



Personnel management: safety and health regulations; piece rate and other incentive systems; supervisors’ role and responsibilities; aptitude testing; in-factory skills improvement programs .

Competencies


At the end of the course, participants will be tested for the following skills:

Ability to identify conditions impeding factory performance and develop and implement effective improvement strategies.
